Trans Joy Party Takes Over Kentucky Capitol Rotunda

On Thursday, March 27, Advocates of Transgender people and their allies are joining together for a “Trans Joy Party” celebrating trans “visibility, resilience, and solidarity.” This gathering will highlight the importance of celebrating the joy and strength of the trans community, despite legislative challenges. 

The event begins at 11 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort. 

The event is sponsored by the ACLU of Kentucky, All People’s Justice Center, Fairness Campaign, Kentuckiana Transgender Support Group, Louisville Youth Group, Mandala House, and other community partners and allies. 

Highlights of the event include: 

  • Welcome and orientation led by Emma Curtis, emphasizing event activities, table stations, and acknowledging supportive representatives.
  • Musical introduction from Maddie Spalding and Lorna Dries.
  • Presentation from Jacks Gilles of Mandala House centered on themes of healing and joy.
  • Inspiring remarks from Louisville Youth Group representatives, showcasing youth voices and empowerment.
  • Remarks by Alexander Griggs emphasizing community strength, solidarity, and ongoing advocacy for trans rights.
  • An energetic inclusive dance and music party facilitated by Carma Bell Marshall. 
  • The dance party will transition into a Visibility March from the Capitol as the party ends and the crowd moves from the Rotunda to a secondary location nearby. 

This is a welcoming, all-ages event.
