Connection: Land, Water, Sky is coming to the LUME at Newfields. It is the only immersive exhibit that showcases contemporary Australian art in the United States.
The LUME offers guests a chance to wander throughout the 30,000+ square feet space amongst the intricate work and vibrant photographs of over 100 Australian artists. Over 500 works are showing in all three digital gallery spaces and begin to gain a deeper understanding of the message indigenous Australian artists share through their work and immersive storytelling. The exhibit aims to share the deep connection between humanity and nature, two themes close to indigenous culture in Australia.
Konstantina (Kate Constantine), a featured Gadigal artist of the Eora Nation, serves as a cultural advisor for
Newfields calls the exhibit meaningful for Indigenous Australian art to be displayed in such a way.
“The technology of ‘Connection’ breaks down many barriers to entry,” said Constantine in a release. “A lot of people like Aboriginal art because it is colorful or pretty, but many people are challenged by Aboriginal art too, by not knowing or understanding how to interpret it, or not feeling like they have permission to be involved. Connection is just so inclusive.”
As part of the experience at the LUME, the Cafe will reopen as Café Yarra, offering Australian-inspired food and drinks.
Tickets are on sale now at the Newfields website. The exhibit officially opens to the public on Saturday, May 10.
Bruce Peterson, Founder and Chairman of Grande Experiences, said in a release, “Visitors will enjoy the unique opportunity to lose themselves in the art, history, spirit, and vibrancy of Australia’s First Peoples culture. We could not be more excited and prouder to be partnering with the esteemed National Museum of Australia to bring Connection to Newfields for its US premiere.”
