Violinist Kishi Bashi Performs His ‘RETROspect’ Tour At Whirling Tiger

Acclaimed performer and composer Kishi Bashi will perform on Saturday, 5/17, at Whirling Tiger (1335 Story Ave.) with the Oshima Brothers. He is on tour for his May 2025 RETROspect tour, which reflects over his career releases thus far. His newest recording, “Kantos,” is a fusion of orchestral rock, Brazilian Jazz, Funk, inspired by ancient philosophies and science fiction.

Fans of experimental performances will appreciate Bashi’s play with looping violin, music that spans genres, and “cinematic storytelling.”
Bashi has performed previously with artists Regina Spektor and Of Montreal, and appeared on SNL, David Letterman, Conan, and Jimmy Fallon. Omoiyari, Bashi’s documentary, explores the themes of identity and the history of Japanese Americans, including the treatment of Japanese immigrants in America during WWII.

Doors at 7 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $20/$25 day of show.
