“It is heartbreaking to see another person lose their life in Louisville’s jail,” ACLU of KY Communication Director Angela Cooper said in an email. “We are working with officials to learn more about how this happened, and in the meantime, we’re continuing to work on strategies like Amnesty Court to stem the flow of people into the facility. Registration for Spring Amnesty Court is open now and closes February 28, and there will be another Amnesty docket in the Fall.”
The Amnesty Court allows those with active bench warrants to have their cases rescheduled and the warrants set aside. The next Amnesty Court deadline is Friday, Feb. 28. Those interested can apply here: LouisvilleProsecutors.org/Redocket.
