Moremen Gallery (710 W. Main St.) announces its latest exhibition, a solo show of new works by LA-based artist Heimir Björgúlfsson. The show will open on Sept. 12 and run through Oct. 12.
Heimir Björgúlfsson’s work explores relationships between mankind and nature. An often fraught situation examining how animals adapt to changing habitats and the consequences of development and climate change.
Björgúlfsson was born in Iceland and has a deep interest in the natural world. The show, titled: IS IT GAME OVER OR ARE WE JUST GETTING STARTED?, reflects the artist’s ongoing exploration of the future and our impact on the world.

“My work introduces questions rather than offers solutions,” Björgúlfsson said in his artist statement. “I am interested in our clash with nature, however subtle or absurd, and its unpredictable consequences, how animal species adapt to changing habitats, and how they endure the effects of urbanization and climate change. I seek the awkwardness within those situations and the coincidental narratives formed by the viewer’s cultural identities.
“Growing up in Iceland, I aspired to be an ornithologist. After moving to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to study art, I found myself in surroundings where every square foot was altered. This contrasting environment from the largely unaltered Iceland molded my artistic direction. The environment I work in versus the environment I am from continues to be a source of motivation as I adopted a new hometown of Los Angeles, California, with its clash of artificial and natural environments, complex history, and layered cultures.”
