Owners of a Louisville llama farm located near the Louisville Zoo are waking up to a devastating loss. The barn for their Llamas was lost in a fire overnight with all the animals inside. A neighbor who lives across the street shared the news online Monday morning.
In his post, he said he spoke to a police officer who speculated that a space heater may be involved but he is skeptical.
“The farm owners, I believe are doctors,” he shared with Louisville Independent Observer in a message on the condition that he remain anonymous. “I’m pretty sure a doctor wouldn’t leave a space heater in a barn full of hay. Plus those llamas had huge thick coats of fur.
“There are two barns. One for the llamas and the other is where all the chickens are housed. The chickens survived. Their barn was kind of untouched. It was only the llama barn.”
Back in 2019, the same farm suffered the loss of six llamas in a still undetermined animal attack. Reports and sightings leaned towards a pack of wild dogs seen near the farm before the attack.
Louisville Independent reached out to owner Dale Hill for a comment and will update the story as necessary.
An eyewitness shared some photos of what’s left after the fire was extinguished this morning.
