On June 14, join Asia Institute — Crane House and Cultura Philippines for a Philippines Independence Day Celebration at Fourth Street Live! (411 S. 4th St.).
From 4 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, Fourth Street Live! will be turned into an exciting celebration of the Philippines’ liberation from Spanish colonial rule in 1898. Enjoy Filipino-themed food trucks, food vendors, retail vendors, and performances by Filipino and other cultural groups.
“I have lived in Louisville for over 25 years, and have had such a great time learning and being a part of our local Louisville Filipino Community,” said Joel Buno, executive director of Asia Institute – Crane House. “Filipinos are the third largest Asian population in Louisville (third only to Indian and Vietnamese). This event is my love letter to the strong and resilient Filipinos in Louisville.”

Asia Institute — Crane House (1244 S. 3rd St.) is the local hub for promoting understanding of Asian cultures and heritage through education, outreach, and the arts. Cultura Philippines promotes Filipino culture and heritage through teaching and performing traditional Filipino cultural dances.
“Cultura Philippines’ mission is to pass on Filipino traditional dance — sharing history, culture, and connection,” said Cultura Philippines’ senior production assistant Gemma Fetalver. “That’s what this celebration is about.”
In addition to the two presenting groups, the Louisville Downtown Partnership is proud to sponsor the inaugural Fourth Street Live Philippines Independence Day celebration to promote Louisville’s rich diversity.

“Louisville Downtown Partnership is proud to sponsor the inaugural Philippines Independence Day Celebration at Fourth Street Live!,” said Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP). “Events like this showcase the diverse cultural heritage that makes our city vibrant and welcoming, and foster the kind of inclusive community connections that strengthen the fabric of our Downtown neighborhood.”
