New Albany Celebrates Women In Business For International Women’s Day

Saturday, March 8, join Kristina Stubblefield(SoIN Media Group), and Holly Hartman (POP Agency) for She Means Business, an International Women’s Day celebration. 

Hosted at various locations in New Albany (check the website) this day is dedicated to the celebration and success of women.

3 – 4 p.m. The Amazing Lucy Higgs Nichols Called New Albany Home – Free with Registration

Facilitator: Eileen Yanoviak, PhD

Learn about the incredible life of Lucy Higgs Nichols, a Civil War nurse who escaped enslavement in Tennessee, joined the Indiana 23rd Regiment, and eventually settled in New Albany. A fierce self-advocate, she petitioned Congress for the pension she deserved. Create a painted paper cityscape of historic downtown New Albany inspired by the book Before She Was Free, written and illustrated by third graders at S. Ellen Jones Elementary School. 

Dr. Eileen Yanoviak is a historian, artist, non-profit professional, and published author who wrote The Tenacious Nurse Nichols: An Unsung African American Civil War Hero, releasing from Lyons Press in May 2025.
