Today, at Joe Creason Park, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced that the proposed redevelopment of the Louisville Tennis Center would not be moving forward. His remarks were also posted on the Mayor’s social media.
“Today, I am announcing that the proposed tennis and pickleball project will not be moving forward at Joe Creason Park. At my insistence, the nonprofit group proposing this project held a community meeting for feedback. Over the last couple of weeks, I loudly and clearly heard that Louisville wants more world-class facilities for tennis, pickleball, and other sports. And, I loudly and clearly heard from neighbors that this proposed project should not be built at Joe Creason Park. This is why we have community engagement. Thanks to everyone who made their voices heard during this process. Now, we will work on other projects in different locations to create world-class athletic facilities. We will continue investing in our amazing parks. We will continue considering big ideas. And, we will continue to listen.
This is a stunning victory for the community that organized and pushed hard against this project, taking public lands and offering them to a private development group, who, from the start, lacked transparency about the project.
Greenberg’s remarks also strike a different tone than his previous ones on Wednesday.
